EDWARD KAY has an eclectic background in both live-action and animated television comedy, as well as print journalism and, most recently, fiction. He spent four years as a writer and producer on the political satire, This Hour Has 22 Minutes and was a contributor to Rick Mercer’s Talking to Americans. Edward became interested in writing for children after appearing as a guest speaker at a “special ed” school in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, where he was asked to explain his role as a television comedy writer. He was warned to have low expectations, but after an hour of very agreeable and stimulating discussion with about a hundred kids, he came away with a strong desire to write for such a thoughtful and receptive audience. In response, Edward created his first children’s project, Olliver’s Adventures, a Gemini-winning animated comedy about a lovable but ADD-afflicted boy. More recently, Edward co-created the darkly humorous series Jimmy Two Shoes, currently airing on Teletoon in Canada, and internationally with Disney. Edward’s television writing has garnered him three Gemini Awards, three Canadian Comedy Awards, a Canadian Screenwriting Award, and an International Emmy nomination. He has also worked as a print journalist specializing in science, business, the environment and nature for publications such as Equinox, Canadian Geographic, and The Globe and Mail. He has received two Canadian National Magazine Award Honourable Mentions.
